Can Baiting

Can baiting is a tactic used in high sec systems by pilots wanting to fight but do not want to go to low sec to pvp and they can usually found near the big trade hubs such as Jita, Amarr, Rens and Tash-Murken. Its a trap that many new players find themselves falling into.

Can baiting pilots will often use frigates, cruisers, assault frigates and interceptors as their weapons of choice though not all will use these ships.

The pilot will usually go to a few asteroid belts in a busy system and kill some NPC rats, he will then sit there in the belts and wait for someone to fly in and loot one of the wrecks, the looter will then turn "blinky red" to the player who killed the rats (the looter flashes red on the baiters overview). Once he is Blinky red the baiter is free to shoot and kill the looter (yes, even in high sec), untill the aggression countdown runs out which lasts for 15 minutes.

Sometimes the looter will not see anyone in the asteroid belt other than himself and think he is safe to loot the wrecks but unbeknown to him or her they will show up in local as a criminal but only towards the baiter and a good baiter will scan the looter down quickly and usually engage for a fight.

The can baiter is in a win-win situation, he gets to fight in high sec space without Concord intervening and he also gets to choose if he wants to fight or not after weighing up his chances against the looter.

I have a corp mate that can baits every day while hes at work, if he worked for me id sack him ;)
He does it because he can sit in an asteroid belt all day and just look in on the game now and then while hes sat at his desk, sometimes he gets lucky and he quite often tops the killboards for the week.

HMMMM. Can Baiting while at work. Might have to try that. Better to leave it in window mode and put it just to the edge of your screen os that just your over view shows and when someone goes flashy it will catch your attention with out you haveing to watch it all the time...
