Skill Training in Eve Online

To the newcomer for the first time, Eve Online can be quite overwhelming, it is a information overload and a lot to try and take in. A lot of players will waste their first few days of training simply because they don't understand how it works. There is nothing more frustrating than saving up for that nice new frigate and then trying to jump into it only to be told you don't have the skills to fly it.

Good early practice to get into is to always check the skills required to fly a new ship or what is required to fit a new module before actually parting with your Isk.

Here's how we do it :-

You have started the game as Amarr and probably have Amarr frigates pre-trained up to level 2 to get you on your way.

You have seen the Punisher frigate and would like to fly this ship, you open up the information (click the small blue circle in the market place next to where the punisher is for sale) window on the Punisher, you then click on the "prerequisites" tab near the top of the information window. This window tells you what skills are needed to fly this ship.

You will see you need "spaceship command" trained to level 3 and which you probably already have as indicated by a green tick next to the skill.

You will also see "amarr frigates" needs to be trained to level 3, you will now see a yellow circle next to the skill indicating you have the amarr frigate skill but it is not trained high enough yet so you simply go to your character sheet and click skills then proceed to the spaceship command skills and find "amarr frigates", you then right click amarr frigates and train the skill. Once the skill is trained to level 3 you will be able to fly your nice new shiny ship.

Its the same for everything

We use exactly the same process for everything in Eve, say you want to use missile launchers, you would go to the information sheet for the launchers you want to use and follow the steps as above

If you see a red cross next to any skills it means you don't have those skills yet and will need to buy them from the market in order to start training them.

Its Easy

Its quite easy when you have done it a few times but new players can struggle here so just refer to this guide when you are stuck or post a message below and we will help you out.
