Running missions in eve is a very good way to make a lot of Isk and anybody focusing on missions and skilling up to run these as there main source of income can become pretty efficient quite quickly.
Caldari are probably the ships to train for if this is what you want to do, all their missile boats are highly adept at PVE (player versus environment). It is quite possible to be running Level 3 missions within 1 month of starting the game. To put this in perspective, I can make around 5 million Isk per hour running level 3 missions in the Drake Battle cruiser although once you get into level 4 missions the Isk you will make can be far more than this, from 15 million upto 60 million Isk per hour.
Mission runners can make their money in relatively safety in the realms of high sec space although quite a few level 4 agents do reside in low sec, it is still however an easy profession to enter.
Running missions can also provide the pilot with Faction Mods from the points they will earn from their agents and can be sold on the "contracts" market.
